Charles “Charley” Phillips, age 82, of Elkton, passed away on Thursday, January 8, 2015 at 11:05 a.m. in his son’s home.
Charley was born on January 24, 1932, a son to Adrian and Lila (Johnson) Phillips. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army having served during the Korean War. He married Betty Jo (Clark) Hirschmugel and she survives. After a divorce, he later married Nellie Mae Dunkin who preceded him in death on October 16, 1996. He was a truck driver for Hogan-Glennon for 30 years, a lifetime member of VFW #6865, Coulterville, and a member of the American Legion. Charley loved riding motorcycles and mechanics.
Survivors include his two sons, Michael J. (Maribeth) Phillips of Troy, Mo., and Charles R. “Chuck” Phillips, Jr. of Elkton; a daughter, Shelly (Robert) Potthoff of Foristell, Mo.; a brother, David (Darlene) Phillips of Wentzville, Mo.; three sisters, Dottie Shives of Texas, Carol Alexander of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Debbie (Lawrence) Suggs of Portland, Texas; his first wife, Betty Jo Hirschmugel; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and second wife, Nellie Mae Phillips.
Funeral services were held at Pyatt Funeral Home, Coulterville, IL on Wednesday, January 14 at 12 p.m. Interment will be in Elkton Cemetery, Elkton.
