Understrength Hornettes Lose Twice At Highland

By Travis Volz

A short-handed Nashville Hornettes squad dropped two straight games at the Highland Tournament last week.

Already playing without senior Emily Thompson, the Hornettes were dealt another blow when leading scorer Jordi Harre was injured early in the quarterfinal game against Belleville-West last Tuesday. The senior guard suffered a foot injury and was unable to play over the final three quarters in Nashville’s 46-21 loss.

The Maroons immediately took advantage of the situation, jumping out to a 17-2 lead in the first quarter. That run told the tale, as Nashville could not find much offense with the team’s two seniors unable to play.

Janie Holle finished as the Hornettes’ leading scorer with six points. Paige Kasten and Alexis Zgonina also scored five points apiece in the loss.
