Wrong-Way Driver On I-64 Causes Crash
A two-vehicle traffic crash occurred on the eastbound lanes of I-64 near the 55 mile marker at approximately 9:18 p.m., on Monday, January 26, resulting in one of the vehicle occupants being evacuated due to their injuries.
According to the Illinois State Police report, Angelo Barru, 44, of Park Hills, Mo., driving a 2003 white Chevrolet 3500 pickup, was heading westbound in the eastbound lanes of I-64 when he struck a 1999 gray Buick 4-door car driven by a 24-year-old male from Calhoun, Neb. head on.
While both drivers were uninjured, a 16-year-old female passenger in the Buick was evacuated from the scene by helicopter and taken to a regional hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Both cars were heavily damaged.
The investigation is ongoing, charges are pending.
