Legion Auxiliary Meets In
The Nashville American Legion Auxiliary met on Jan. 8 at 7 p.m. with eight members present. President Phyllis Meier opened with the Pledge of Allegiance and The Preamble. Chaplain Saline Jett led with prayer. Secretary and Treasurer Terry Campbell gave the minutes and the treasure report. There were three new juniors and one new regular member that joined.
The District Meeting was held on Jan. 18 at the American Legion. The Auxiliary is currently paying the postage to send coupons overseas. As of September 9, 2014, there are 86,539 American servicemen still listed as Missing in Action: World War I – 3,350, World War II – 73,536, Korea – 7,880, Cold War – 126, Southeast Asia – 1,641 and Iraq and Other Conflicts – 6.
The Nashville American Legion Auxiliary is sending boxes of books, puzzles and magazines to The Haven in Carbondale, the VA Center in Marion and Jefferson Barracks. The veterans are really happy to get these items.
Members of the Auxiliary volunteer at veterans hospitals, help sell poppies to make a better day for the veterans, send a Junior high school girl to Illini Girls State.
The following items are needed for The Haven in Carbondale: tomato sauce, canned tomatoes, spaghetti and pasta, paper towels, paper plates, forks, knives and spoons, any soup items, cake mixes and frostings.
