Mission Suppers During Lent At St. John’s In New Minden
St. John’s Lutheran Church in New Minden will be hosting mission suppers on Wednesday evenings before some of its Lenten services. The suppers are scheduled for Feb. 18, Feb. 25, and March 25, and will be served from 6 – 7 p.m. in the schoolhouse basement at the corner of State Routes 127 and 177 in New Minden. A freewill offering will be taken at each supper to benefit Missionary Christ Xinhongy, who will soon be returning to his native China.
Each supper will be followed by a 7:30 Lenten service under the theme “Calling Us Home.” Worship services continue to be held in the Schoolhouse basement until repairs on the church are completed. (It is hoped that worship in the church can resume in early April.)
The first of the three suppers will be Ash Wednesday, Feb. 18. Sponsored by the weekday religion class, a smorgasbord of soups will be featured, along with “funeral sandwiches.”
The second of the suppers will be Wednesday, Feb. 25, and will feature chicken Alfredo, served by the ladies of St. Luke’s, Covington. Missionary Chris will be the guest speaker for the worship that evening.
The March 25 supper is a soup and sandwich meal sponsored by the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League of St. John’s.
The Wednesday evening Lenten services run for six consecutive weeks from Feb. 18 through March 25, at 7:30 in the Schoolhouse basement. The public is invited.
