Kenneth A. Zapp, Sr., 83, of Nashville, passed away at 6:40 a.m. on Sunday, March 15, 2015 at Memorial Hospital in Belleville. He was born on February 11, 1932 in Nashville, the son of Arthur and Della Hawkins Zapp. He married Carol Rae Dennis on May 1, 1954 in Beaucoup and she survives in Nashville. Also left to mourn his passing are two sons, Kenneth (Pat) Zapp, Jr. and Bill (Tracy) Zapp both of Nashville; a daughter, Kimberly Markotay of Sparta; a sister, Sharen (Dale) Dennis of Kansas City, Mo.; seven grandchildren, Kenneth (Taryn) Zapp III, Jordan (Courtney) Stroud, Quinton Zapp, Brittany (John) Lundgren, Jennifer Markotay, Kelsey and Jeremy Zapp; five great grandchildren, Eli and Iylie Harris, Connor Zapp, Zoe Stroud and Raynor Lundgren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son-in-law, Larry Markotay; three brothers, Harold, Ray and Bill Zapp; and three sisters, Hazel Hoepker, Betty Jack and Mary Schaeffer.

Mr. Zapp was a graduate of Nashville Community High School and was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He was a retired prison guard at Menard Correctional Center where he obtained the rank of Lieutenant. He was a member of the Oakdale United Presbyterian Church, the Nashville American Legion Post #110 and Washington County Farm Bureau. He was the past President of the Oakdale School Board. Kenneth enjoyed gardening and picking up pecans which he sold.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 19 at Styninger Funeral Home in Nashville with Rev. John Campbell officiating. Burial will follow in the Beaucoup Cemetery with military rites accorded by the American Legion Post #110. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
