Master Gardeners Plan Garden Day-Spring Fling
University of Illinois Master Gardeners will be hosting an annual Spring Fling/Garden Day on Friday, April 10 from 9:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. at Kaskaskia College Agriculture building, 27210 College Road, Centralia, Illinois.
“After the long winter I have not met anyone who is not anxious for spring to get here both gardeners and non-gardeners alike,” states Gail DeVilbiss, Extension Ag and Natural Resource Program Coordinator. The Garden day is organized as a learning and social event to bring together area gardeners of all levels from beginner to master. There is a wide variety of topics to entice just about any outdoor enthusiast.
This year’s Spring Fling has something for everyone. Workshops will include Quick Response (QR) Codes-What are they and how can they make me a better gardener?; Extension Educator Elizabeth Wahle will present Growing the perfect tomato; Extension staff will talk on landscaping for Wildlife; Master Gardener and photographer Tom James will share some of his photography along with tips on being ready to capture the beauty of our gardens; and Extension educator Kelly Allsup will discuss a new trend Straw Bale Gardening.
In addition to the organized programing there will be additional information available throughout the day. There is a modest fee to attend this program and will include all talks, lunch and door prizes. The new Kaskaskia Agriculture building offers convenient parking and is completely handicap accessible.
