Marie (Lake) Stein, daughter of the late Bernard and Catherine (Buss) Lake, was born on March 28, 1925. She resided in Lively Grove until her marriage to Libory Stein on October 28, 1943. The newlyweds moved to the Stein farm northwest of Lively Grove, and became parents to six children: Lorraine, Mary Anna, Sue, Jim, Tom and Betty. Marie was a partner on the family farm, as well as a school cook at Johannisburg Grade School, and later did office work at Washington Springs Nursing Home. After Marie and Lib moved to Okawville in 1973, she was employed at the Dalee Plaza (later named Ron’s One Stop and Road Ranger), first as a cashier and eventually as supervisor for 17 years, retiring when Lib grew ill in 2009.

Marie’s family will be celebrating her 90th birthday with an Open House on April 12th at St. Barbara’s Parish Center in Okawville from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. They would like to invite all Marie’s friends and relatives to join her at this special celebration. Marie has asked that no gifts be given. If you cannot attend, cards would be most appreciated, sent to Marie Stein, 307 Elm Street, Okawville, IL 62271.
