Conditions were far from optimal, but the Nashville Hornets overcame the cold weather to take both games in a three-team doubleheader Saturday in Freeburg.

Sterling pitching performances by Dylan Mueller and Troy Pedtke helped the Hornets beat the host school 7-4 and Metro East Lutheran 5-1.

In the opener, Mueller went the distance for Nashville and allowed just one earned run and fanning six Midgets to pick up the win.

Nashville plated five runs in the third inning to open up a lead, and that would prove to be enough for Mueller. Freeburg scored three unearned runs in the sixth to make it a game, but the Hornets held on.

Jaris Dalman, Ryan Brink and Cody Bauza knocked in two runs apiece, and Trace Musielak added an RBI of his own in the win.
