Donald Jay Lime of Venedy departed this life in the hospice unit of the Highsmith Rainey Hospital in Fayetteville, N.C. on Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at 5:20 p.m. He had attained the age of 65 years, three months and two days.
Donald was born in Opalocka, Fla., on December 29, 1949, the son of Jay E. and Emma Jean (nee Cooper) Lime. He was united in marriage to Elizabeth Haithcock in O’Fallon, Mo., on July 4, 1982, and she survives his passing.
Mr. Lime was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in Vietnam, having been awarded the Bronze Star Medal and a Vietnam Service Medal with two Campaign Stars among others awards. He served in the Army and Army Reserves for 27 years until his retirement as an aircraft technician. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 4183 at Scott Air Force Base in O’Fallon, Ill. Donald was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed boating, fishing, participating in turkey shoots and shooting clay birds. He also enjoyed traveling with family and friends and was known as a connoisseur of outdoor grilling. Most of all he loved playing with his grandchildren.
Left to mourn his passing are his wife, Elizabeth of Venedy; two daughters, Anna Hiltibidal and husband Jeremy of Eastover, N.C., and April Statler and husband Jason of Venedy; seven grandchildren; two brothers, Bob Lime and wife Jenny of St. Peters, Mo., and Tom Lime and Linda of Lake of the Ozarks, Mo.; a sister, Tami Tibbits and husband Jamie of O’Fallon, Mo.; nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services were held from the Campagna Funeral Home in Okawville on Wednesday, April 8 at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Jeffrey Schwab officiating. Interment will be in the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the American Lung Association or to VFW Post 4183 and will be accepted by the Campagna Funeral Home.
