Hornettes Still Unbeaten After Ten Games
By Travis Volz
With five wins over the last week, the Nashville Hornettes stretched their season opening win streak to ten games.
Emily Thompson hit a grand slam and Maci Ingram overpowered the Annies in Nashville’s 5-1 win at Centralia last Tuesday.
The Hornettes led 1-0 after Jordi Harre doubled in a run in the third inning, and Thompson’s blast extended that lead to five runs.
That would be more than enough offense for Ingram, who allowed just one earned run and two hits while striking out 14.
Mackenzie McFeron and Brook Burcham also had two hits apiece in the win.
The Hornettes were back on the road at Carlyle last Wednesday and beat the Lady Indians 4-2.
Nashville broke through in the first inning when Harre reached on a single and later scored on Diedra Holzhauer’s RBI hit.
Burcham doubled and scored, and Paige Kasten singled, stole a base and later scored in the Hornettes’ two-run second inning. Nashville tacked a run on in the seventh after Thompson drove in Kasten with a sacrifice fly.
Ingram was efficient in the circle again, surrending one earned run while fanning 14 to notch another win.
