The Nashville Community High School Math Team competed at the South East Missouri State Math Field Day in Cape Girardeau April 21. The math competition that consists mainly of students from schools from both Missouri and Illinois taking timed math tests with or without a calculator. Students could compete as a team on events such as Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, and Trigonometry. Students could also compete on individual events such as Word Problems, Number Bases, Exponents and Logarithms, Matrices and Determinants, Analytic Geometry, Calculus, Sets and Logic, Number Theory, Probability, and Computational Mathematics. Bobby Markotay, a second year math teacher at NCHS, coached the squad. Winners from NCHS: Jessica Clark placed first in Geometry Individual event; Luke Cox placed first in Exponential and Logarithmic event; Kelsie Klingenburg placed third in Analytic Geometry event; Alex Orr placed first in Sets and Logic event, second in Non-Routine Problem Solving Level 2, and second in Calculus event; Logan Czerniewski placed second in Sets and Logic event; Brett Roth placed second in Computational Math; Tyler Williamson placed first in Non Routine Problem Solving event; Jacob Woodrome placed third in Computational Math event. The Medley Team consisting of Logan Czerniewski, Kelsie Klingenburg, Alex Orr and Sam Polzynski took second place.
