The Nashville Community High School Board met for their monthly meeting on Wednesday, April 29. The meeting was postponed from the regular monthly time, which would have been on Monday, April 20, to allow results from the Spring election to be certified and to seat the new board members.
The board called the meeting to order with the seated board, then heard the result of the election which saw Paul Barczewski, John Hallock and Tom Speedie win the vacant board seats.
The remaining board also wished the three departing board members, Scott Thompson, Doug Snead and Dave Ibendahl (who was not present), farewell.
“I have been on the board going on six years,” said board president Shawn Cook, “it’s been a real pleasure serving with Scott, Doug and Dave. Between the three of them, there’s nearly 20 years of service to this school board.”
Cook then administered the oath of office to Barczewski, Hallock and Speedie. The meeting was adjourned sine die, and the regular meeting was reconvened.
Cook was once again approved as board president, and he then appointed other board officers: Marsha Gajewski as vice president; and Sharon Ogrzewalla as secretary and executive session secretary.
Some committees were appointed as well: the finance committee will be a committee of the whole board, facilities committee will include Barczewski and Ogrzewalla, the collective bargaining and personnel committee will be Ogrzewalla, Gajewski and Cook. Finally, the transportation committee appointments were deferred until next month.
The board also approved the regular board meeting schedule, planning to meet on the third Monday of each month, at 6 p.m., in the NCHS Media Center. There will be changes made to the schedule depending on holidays, and already the board will be planning to meet on the fourth Monday of June, to allow for the final budget of the fiscal year to be approved.
Getting down to regular business, the board heard about a number of upcoming events from Superintendent Wendy Davis, who stated that May will be a very busy month.
