After going almost two months without a loss, the Nashville Hornettes suffered two losses in a couple of hours last Thursday.

Last month, Nashville and Carterville played to a 3-3 tie in extra innings when the game had to be called due to darkness. The two teams picked up where the game left off, and Carterville won it with a walk-off homer in the tenth to hand the Hornettes their first loss of the season.

With that game finally decided, the two teams squared off again for a regular game and had similar results. This time the game went 12 innings before Carterville won 2-1.

Maci Ingram was dealing for Nashville. She shut down the Lady Lions’ potent lineup for six straight innings before finally giving up an unearned run in the seventh.

Shortstop Brooke Burcham helped maintain the shutout with a nifty defensive play in the fourth. Carterville’s Kylee Rock hit a hot shot up the middle that bounced off Ingram in the circle. Burcham fielded the ball and made perfect throw to first to nab Rock.

The Lady Lions scratched an unearned run in the top of the seventh, and it looked like the day might be over. But Diedra Holzhauer crushed a pitch over the left field fence in the bottom of the inning to knot the score and send the game into extra innings.
