Joseph L. Gill

Mr. Joseph L. Gill of Oakdale departed this life at his residence in Oakdale on Thursday, May 7, 2015 at 7:14 a.m. He had attained the age of 77 years, ten months and 15 days.

Mr. Gill was born on June 22, 1937 in Perry County, the son of Leo P. and Catherine W. (Stern) Gill. He was united in marriage to Florence Piotrowski on August 2, 1958 at St. Bruno Catholic Church in Pinckneyville, and she survives his passing.

Joseph was a lifelong farmer and a member of the Joe Gill Polka Band for many years. He was also a member of St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in Todds Mill and the Knights of Columbus in Pinckneyville. Joe loved excavating, fishing, playing the accordion and spending time with his family.

Left to mourn his passing is his wife Florence Gill of Oakdale; five children, Cathy Masters and husband Bart of Beckley, W. Va., Jeff Gill and wife Pam of Nashville, Gary Gill and wife Kristina of Oakdale, Mark Gill and wife Michelle of Oakdale and Generose Buchanan and husband Randy of Nashville; a sister, Mary Ann Kitowski and husband Jerry of Waltonville; 13 grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Marcus Allen.

Mass of Christian burial was held at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in Todds Mill on Monday, May 11 with Fr. Bernard Goedde officiating and with interment in the church cemetery.

Should friends desire mass offerings or memorials may be made to the St. Ann Catholic School and will be accepted by the Campagna Funeral Home, in charge of arrangements.
