Students from St. Ann’s school and Trinity St. John school from Nashville learned about dairy farming during a recent tour to Mike Chwasczinski’s farm southeast of Nashville on April 29 as part of the Washington County Farm Bureau’s Ag In The Classroom day.

St. Ann’s kindergartners, first and second graders, along with first and second graders from TSJ visited the barns and milking parlor to learn about milk production.

The students also had a chance to sit in a tractor and learn about farm machinery along with making a dairy farm “charm” bag.

Joyce Fikri, LDN and Illinois Information Coordinator of the St. Louis Dairy Council also talked about dairy as part of a healthy diet.

Calves, sheep, chickens and rabbits were also on hand in a petting zoo.

Nashville High School FFA members helped with the tour, read stories, helped with crafts and set up

Altogether, 46 students attended the day.

Dairy farm owner and Farm Bureau member Mike Chwasczinski shares a carton of milk and cookies with students after the dairy tour. Students got to see the milking parlor, the feed lot and more on their visit to Chwasczinski’s farm
