Betty J. Lake

Mrs. Betty Lake of Okawville departed this life in the Memorial Hospital in Belleville on Thursday, May 21, 2015 at 6:30 p.m. She had attained the age of 71 years, eight months and 18 days.

Betty was born in Pontiac on September 3, 1943, the daughter of Edward and Margaret (nee Frosco) Jones. She grew up in Marissa and moved to Okawville in 1958. She was united in marriage to Wilbert Lake in the St. Barbara Catholic Church at Okawville on September 6, 1960 and he survives her passing.

Mrs. Lake was a homemaker and was a school bus driver for the West Washington County Unit School District from 1977 until 1990. She was a faithful member of the St. Barbara Catholic Church in Okawville where she was a former member of the Altar Sodality. She was also a former member of the Okawville Community Club and the American Legion Post 233 Auxiliary. She enjoyed quilting, gardening and watching hummingbirds. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and loved following her children and grandchildren’s sporting events.

Left to mourn her passing is her husband, Wilbert of Okawville; three sons, Steve Lake and wife Kelly of Breese, Alan Lake and wife Kathy of Okawville and Ken Lake and wife Dana of Albers; eight grandchildren; a brother, Bobby Jones and wife LaVaun of Marissa; a sister, Pat Krawieski and husband John of Nashville; a sister-in-law; three step great grandchildren; nieces and nephews as well as a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Edward Jones; her mother and stepfather, Margaret and Joseph Belinski; a brother-in-law; and her father and mother-in-law.

Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at the St. Barbara Catholic Church in Okawville with Fr. Steven Poole officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the St. Barbara Catholic Church, Okawville Senior Center or Hospice of Southern Illinois and will be accepted by Campagna Funeral Home.
