Mrs. Ruthie Ostendorf Mathews, a resident of the Friendship Manor Health Care Center in Nashville, formerly of Addieville, departed this life in Friendship Manor on Saturday, May 23, 2015 at 10:10 p.m. She had attained the age of 82 years, ten months and 14 days.
Ruthie was born in Washington County on July 9, 1932, the daughter of Theodore and Ella (nee Ruesse) Hedemann. She was united in marriage to Orlie Ostendorf in the St. Salvator Lutheran Church in Venedy on May 26, 1956 and he preceded her in death on June 19, 1998. She then was united in marriage to Eugene Mathews in the St. Anthony Catholic Church in Lively Grove on July 10, 1999 and he preceded her in death on March 22, 2015.
Mrs. Mathews was a homemaker. She was a member of the St. Peter United Church of Christ in Okawville.
Left to mourn her passing is her son, Eugene Ostendorf and wife Audrey of Okawville; two grandchildren; a great granddaughter; a sister, Alice Green and husband Richard of Venedy; a step son, Howard “Butch” Mathews of Addieville; three step daughters, Glenys Prest and husband Mike of Coulterville, Pauline Kramper and husband Ronald of St. Libory, and Donna Hundelt and husband Ron of Okawville; nine step grandchildren; 17 step great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Norman and John Hedemann; a niece; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Funeral services will be held from the Campagna Funeral Home in Okawville on Thursday, May 28 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Jeffrey Schwab officiating. Interment will be in the St. Peter Cemetery in Okawville.
Friends may call at the Campagna Funeral Home in Okawville on Thursday from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the Heritage House Museum or to the charity of the donor’s choice and will be accepted by the Campagna Funeral Home.
