After an EF-4 tornado struck St. John’s Lutheran Church and surrounding homes, farms, and businesses in the New Minden and Hoyleton communities on November 17, 2013, hundreds of volunteers came and helped with the cleanup. Many others supported them from afar. Now that the rebuilding is nearly complete, St. John’s is inviting volunteers and supporters back to New Minden in order to say “thank-you.” A “Day of Thanksgiving and Rededication” is planned for Sunday, August 9, 2015.
“There are many people from the region who came and helped, and others who couldn’t be present but supported us in other ways,” explains St. John’s Pastor Tim Mueller. “We are inviting them all to come to New Minden and join us in giving thanks to God. We have sent out over a thousand invitations, but in those crazy days right after the tornado we neglected to gather contact information from the volunteers when they signed in. We want to get the word out that they are invited to come back for the celebration.”
