Cooper Awarded George H. Miller Scholarship

Township Officials of Illinois awarded seven scholarships to graduating seniors from Illinois high schools. Hunter Cooper of Ashley is one of the recipients.

Hunter is the son of Nicole Pedtke and Jody Cooper. A 2015 graduate of Nashville Community High School, he will attend Southern Illinois University Carbondale and study engineering. His high school memberships/activities include National Honors Society, Illinois State Scholar, football team; and acted as assistant coach for Optimist Club Football Camp and Punt, Pass, Kick Camp.

All applicants were asked to write an essay on The Role of Township Government in Today’s Society and in the Future, and interview a township official. This year, 82 applications were submitted.

TOI is a state association that provides education and legislative representation for more than 11,000 township officials throughout the state. Scholarship applicants must have maintained a B average or above, and have demonstrated an active interest in extracurricular activities.

TOI Director/Mt. Vernon Township Assessor Sherry Meadows presents Hunter Cooper of Bolo Township (Washington County) with a plaque for the $1,500 George H. Miller Scholarship.
