Words Of EncouragementNCHS Superintendent’s Notes – August 5, 2015

By Ernie Fowler – Nashville CHSD #99

Next week starts the 2015-16 school year. I hope our students are getting psyched up! The 2014-15 school year is in the rear view mirror and now the students get a chance to start over. That is what is unique about school. Students and teachers put in a hard nine months. They take a three month “hiatus”. They then get an opportunity to begin anew. They get to come back to school with new clothes, new hairstyles, and new stories of how their summer was spent. I always come back to school with new highlights for my hair and I don’t even have to spend money at the beauty shop to get them.

As I look in the mirror, I find that I always start school with my hair a bit more gray-tinted than the year before. I am thankful, however, that my hair is just turning gray and not turning loose!

I hope that our students come into ’15-’16 with an attitude of “this is going to be my best year ever”. I’ve heard it said that “attitude effects altitude”.

I challenge our students to expect this year to be the greatest year in their history of schooling. Do what it takes to make it happen. I’ve always counted on the Senior class to be the ultimate in school leadership.

My goal for the graduating class of 2016… will cement your legacy as the strongest and steadiest leaders of any Senior class who has gone on before you.

Juniors…take note….whatever the Class of 2016 does this year, my goal for you is to do it better next year while being the best Junior class in the history of NCHS.

Sophomores….I expect your maturity level and success rate to have developed at a far quicker pace than any other Sophomore class.

Freshmen…my goal for you is to set a high standard of excellence for all future incoming Freshmen classes.

Students, you are all WINNERS. You are all VALUABLE. You all have a DESTINY to fulfill. It begins in just a few days I challenge you to simply be the best person you can be. If you will commit yourself to that objective, you will achieve the goals that I have outlined. More importantly, you will set yourself on a course to be successful in life.
