Coming off of a season in which they went 33-4, the Hornettes volleyball team lost their first match of the year 2-0 against an experienced Murphysboro. Murphysboro dominated the first game taking it by a score of 25-12. In the second game Nashville came out strong taking an early lead in the contest. Murphysboro stormed back pulling away late taking the second game 25-17.

Murphysboro was led on the night by senior Heather Cross, Coack Konkel talked about her after the game saying “we had no answer for Cross”. These two teams have the chance to face off again in the conference tournament finals on Saturday August 29. Coach Konkel was disappointed in the performance, but says the team can play a lot better moving forward.

The team competes in the conference tournament August 29 before coming home for a matchup against perennial power Breese Central on September 3.

The Hornettes brought home third place in the annual SIRR tournament that was held at Herrin High School on Saturday August 29. The tournament saw the Hornettes take on West Frankfort, Benton, Carterville, Massac County, and Herrin. Massac County won the tournament, followed by Herrin in second.
