Chamber Board Meets With St. Ann School’s New Principal, Nick Antoine

The Nashville Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors met Wednesday, September 2nd and met with the new principal of Saint Ann’s School, Nick Antoine.

Antoine wanted to meet the Chamber, but also to get involved, especially for the students. He asked if the Chamber would allow the Student Council and then one student representative from several classes to come to a General Membership meeting to see how local organizations work, including leadership and building relationships.

Antoine says he not only wants the students to get an academic education, but to also grow spiritually and socially.

The Board agreed this would be a good idea and will get the students there in October or November.

The Chamber also met with Nashville News Advertising Manager Travis Volz and Managing Editor Alex Hagland to find out how they will all work together, now that past-Chamber President Pam Smith is no longer with the newspaper.

They all discussed how things had been and what they will be from now on with both groups in agreement.

The Chamber will get back on path with the Chamber Member spotlight once a week, so be looking for those soon.

Director Doris Povolish reported that there were 12 SIUC architectural students and their teacher in town on Monday, looking at the buildings and layout of downtown Nashville.

The Board asked her to find out if these students will have a final report on Nashville and if they could come present it to the Chamber.

President Tom Speedie and the Chamber Nominating Committee presented one name for re-election to the Chamber Board, as the 3-year term is expiring.

There are so many new members, it is like a new Board has been elected and their 3-year term began when they started on the Board.

Current Treasurer Darlene Schomaker’s term is ending, but she was selected to re-run to be on the Board.

The General Membership will vote on it at the October General Membership meeting. There will be an email to the membership about this.

The Fall Festival is getting closer and there are now 41 vendors with another 13 food vendors signed up for the weekend event.

The General Membership meeting is Wednesday, September 9 at Eagles Nest in Addieville at 6 o’clock.
