The St. Ann/TSJ softball team went 2-3 this past week as they competed in the Fall Ball Classic in Centralia, and took on Central City and Centralia Jr. High in back to back home games at Nashville Park.
The St. Ann/TSJ softball team started of the Fall Ball Classic in Centralia against Carlyle Jr. High. The team came out fast and strong getting two runs in the first inning. Carlyle came back with a run of their own in the first. Carlyle broke the game open in the second inning plating seven runs to take a commanding lead. St. Ann/TSJ would get two more runs but could not come all the way back as Carlyle won the game 10-4. Abby Wesselman notched one hit, stole two bases and scored two runs for St. Ann/TSJ. Cayla Krueger scored a run as well. Kyleigh Guinzy and Taylor Rapp each had two hits in the game.
The St. Ann/TSJ softball team then took on Central City in the second game of the tournament. The team fell behind early as Central City plated three runs in the first inning, and one in the second. St. Ann/TSJ got one run back in the third inning but Central City came back taking a 9-1 lead into the final inning. St. Ann/TSJ would fight back but could only come away with two more runs as they fell 9-3. Kyleigh Guinzy had a great day at the plate with two hits including a two-run home run. Katie May also had two hits in the game as Hayley Kessler, and Cayla Krueger each added a hit apiece
In the final game of the Fall Ball Classic, St. Ann/TSJ took on Mt. Vernon Casey in a game in which St. Ann/TSJ scored early and often plating eight runs in the first two innings. St. Ann/TSJ did the damage without a lot of hits as Mt. Vernon Casey walked or hit eight St. Ann/TSJ batters through the first two innings. The eight runs was all the team needed as they cruised to a 9-4 win in their final game of the tournament. Kyleigh Guinzy had two hits in the game while Reese Varel added another. Abby Wesselman, Cayla Krueger, Kyleigh Guinzy, Taylor Rapp, Katie May, Hayley Kessler, and Reese Varel all scored at least one run in the game.
After the tournament, the team tried again to beat Central City at home on September 1. The offense struggled managing just one hit in the game, losing 9-1. The lone run came in the sixth inning as Abby Wesselman was hit by a pitch and them came around to score on the only hit of the game by Kyleigh Guinzy.
The team ended the week on a high note as they defeated Centralia at home 11-2. St. Ann/TSJ scored at least one run in each of the first five innings plating three runs in the first and the fifth innings. Guinzy continued producing offensively with 3 hits 2 doubles and a home run in the contest. Cayla Krueger added another three hits. Abby Wesselman, Taylor Rapp, and Colleen Jahnke each had two hits in the game.
