Hornettes Take Rangerette Classic Crown

The Nashville Hornettes volleyball team came home with first place at the Rangerette Classic that was held Saturday, September 12 at Benton High School. The Hornettes first saw them match up against Grayville. The Hornettes easily won the match winning both games 25-9 and 25-11. Powering the Hornettes to victory was Janie Holle who led the team with 6 kills and Mackenzie McFeron who had 5 kills. Paige Kasten led the team in serivce points with 8 and assists with 11. Macie Kellerman led the team with 6 digs in the matchup.

The second match saw the Hornettes going up against Woodlawn. Nashville again took the match 2 games to none winning both games by a score of 25-18. Abby Kempfer and Alex Kubiak led the team in kills in the match with 5 apiece. Deidra Holzhauer led the team in service points in the contest with 12. Kasten again led the team in assists with 9.

The Hornettes kept up their winning ways against Johnston City taking the match by scores of 25-19 and 25-19. Kubiak led the team with 5 kills followed by Kempfer and Holle, who each had 4. Kasten had 12 assists in the contest followed by McFeron who had 6.

The Hornettes then looked to beat Carlyle for the second time in three days as they beat them Thursday night. The Hornettes disposed of the Indians again winning the match 25-21 and 25-17. Kubiak again led the team with 8 kills. Kasten filled up the stat sheet as she had 7 kills, 12 service points and 10 assists in the match. Kempfer had 6 kills to go along with 4 blocks.

The championship match was the only time the Hornettes were drawn out to three games. The Hornettes came out on top after losing a close first game 29-27. The Hornettes would come back to win the second game 25-11 to send the match to a deciding third game. The Hornettes dominated the third game winning 15-4. Kayla Wesselman led the team with 11 service points to go along with 10 digs. Holle had 11 kills in the championship match followed by Kempfer with 10 and McFeron with 6. Kasten had 19 assists in the matchup. Kellerman had 17 digs in the match to go along with 8 service points.

The Hornettes record stands at 8-5.
