On October 14th, the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test will be offered to interested juniors. The exam allows students to practice for the SAT, a college admission exam. By taking the PSAT/NMSQT, students who meet entry requirements may enter National Merit Scholarship Corporation's scholarship competitions. For more information about entry requirements, program recognition, and scholarships, visit NMSC's website, www.nationalmerit.org. The test includes two sections on sentence completions, analogies and critical reading, two math sections, and one writing section. The test is approximately three hours long. There is a $15.00 fee to take the PSAT test. Students may register in the Counseling Office through October 7th. Questions concerning the PSAT/NMSQT should be directed to Mrs. Maschhoff.
SIUC Prospective Student Reception:
Southern Illinois University–Carbondale (SIUC) is hosting a prospective student reception on Saturday, September 26 from 11:00-3:00. Parents and students are invited to attend this event for a campus tour, an information session dealing with admissions, financial aid, and housing, and an academic and activities fair. Students and parents are also invited to attend the Saluki Family Tailgate and the SIUC football game. Registration must be completed online at: admissions.siu.edu/reception by September 21.
School of the Art Institute of Chicago:
SAIC will be at the Contemporary Art Museum in St. Louis on Sunday, October 4 from 12:00-3:00. Students are encouraged to bring their portfolios to discuss with admissions counselors.

ACT Prep Classes:
Listed below are various ACT prep classes being offered in our area to help students prepare for the ACT. Contact Mrs. Luessenheide or Mrs. Maschhoff for more specific information.
* Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville (SIUE) – Two different five-week classes are available. September session begins Saturday, September 19th and meets for 5 weeks on Saturdays from 9:00 AM-12:00 PM. October session begins Saturday, October 24 and meets on Saturdays for 5 weeks from 9:00 AM-12:00 PM. The cost per session is $175 and includes a study guide and pre-test. * Southwestern Illinois College (SWIC) – Three different three-week classes are available this fall. Session 1 begins on September 22, session 2 on October 3, and session 3 on October 31. * Webster University – Three different one day workshops are being held. They are on November 21, January 16, and March 19 from 8:00 AM-2:30 PM. Cost is $50. Register online at: webster.edu/actworkshop
ACT Testing Dates:
The next ACT test with open registration is October 24. Registration is due on September 18. Additional ACT testing dates for the year are December 12, February 6, April 9, and June 11. Registration is typically due 5 weeks before the testing date. Students may register at www.ACTStudent.org. Our high school code is 143-110.
