NMS Baseball Recap

The Nashville Middle School Jr. Hornets baseball team had a good week as they went 2-1 when they took on Okawville, Sparta and DuQuoin.

The first game saw the Jr. Hornets take on Okawville in a game in which they won 4-1. Gavin Baldwin had 3 hits and 2 RBIs. Carson Parker and Matt Anderson each had 2 hits in the contest. Parker was also on the mound in the game pitching 5 innings, giving up only 1 hit and striking out 5 for the win. Jacob Rounds pitched a scoreless sixth inning and Nolan Heggemeier gave up the lone run of the game in the seventh.

The second game saw a close contest against Sparta that saw Nashville win 2-1 in 8 innings. The game was deadlocked at 0 until the eighth inning when Sparta broke through for a run. Then in the bottom of the eighth when the Jr. Hornets rallied with two outs. With no one on base Nolan Heggemeier walked, and scored when Carson Parker tripled tying the game at one. The next batter Ian Blazier then singled to score Parker with the winning run. Parker had two hits on the day. Jaxon Goforth was incredible on the mound pitching all eight innings for the win. He gave up the 1 run on 4 hits while striking out 3.

The lone loss for the Jr. Hornets came when they took on DuQuoin on September 3. Nashville fell in the contest 6-2. Carson Parker, Gavin Baldwin, and Matt Anderson each had two hits. Anderson took the loss on the mound.

Nashville Middle School began a game against Pinckneyville was started on September 8, but was stopped in the bottom of the third with Pinckneyville leading 5-4. The game will be picked up from that point on Wednesday September 16.

The game between Nashville Middle School and St. Ann’s/TSJ was cancelled and will not be made up.
