How we think about tomorrow will determine how we live today.

Are you ready for the 66th Okawville Wheat Festival this week-end. The judging and Crowning of the Queen and Junior Miss will be Friday evening at the Okawville High School at 7:00pm. Saturday and Sunday will be entertainment, food, rides etc.. in the Community Club Park. Venedy Band plays Saturday from 4:30 to 6:30. The Venedy German Band usually plays several German selections afterwards. Sunday begins with the parade at 2pm, “Vacation Destinations” is the parade theme.

Nancy Weeke of Venedy, moved this past week to Okawville.

Some area residents enjoyed the beautiful weather at the Schlacht fest at Biddleborn Sunday afternoon.

Cool, bees fly an average of 15 miles per hour.

Ryker Wisneski spent the weekend with his Grandparents, Brian and Susan Wisneski. His parents, Blake and Serena attended the rehearsal on Friday evening and the Wedding on Saturday of Jackie and Jake Horstmann in Herrin. The reception was in Murphysboro. Serena was the Maid of Honor.

Ken and Cathy Witbrodt and Granddaughter Karlie, spent Friday and Saturday at the Witbrodt Farm.

Weed, Weeds everywhere. Hopefully they get cut before an accident occurs.

Cindy McHenry has met a goal of winning a Medal. She won a Gold Medal in the 200M, 400M and 1500M and a Silver Medal in the shot put. She was competing at the Wisconsin Senior Olympics. She found out that there is an advantage to being classified as a Senior!

September 30 is the Feast of St Michael, patron Saint of Law Enforcement. Let us shine a blue light in our windows or porches to show support for our folks in blue.

Friends and family gathered at Seg’s Place in Venedy Sunday evening for Rebekah Segelhorst’s 16th Birthday.

In order to receive the direction from God you must be able to receive the correction from God.

As a professional stock car racer, Darrell Waltrip was once proud of his image as “the guy folks loved to hate”. When crowds booed, he’d just kick the dirt and smile. Then things began to change. He miraculously survived a Daytona 500 crash. He began going to church with his wife, Stevie. He and Stevie began to try to have a family. Stevie, however, suffered four miscarriages.

One day their Pastor came to visit. He asked “your car is sponsored by a beer company. Is that the image you want?” Darrell had never thought about it. He had always loved watching kids admire his car, but the more he thought about it, he discovered that he did care about his image. He thought, if Stevie and my Prayers were answered for a child, what kind of Dad would I be? He remembered his Pastors admonition to “walk the walk, not just talk the talk”.

He didn’t know what to do to convince the car owner to change sponsors, but amazingly, an opportunity opened for him to sign with a new racing team sponsored by a laundry detergent company! After much thought and more prayers, he switched teams. Two years later, daughter Jessica was born and a few years later, daughter Sarah! In 1989, he won the Daytona .

The Venedy Sportsman Club’s 45th Annual Raffle drawing will be held at Seg’s Place in Venedy, Wednesday October 21 at 8pm. If anyone is interested you can purchase tickets from a member.
