Hillary Zgonina of Ashley and currently a freshman at Nashville High School auditioned this past winter for a spot at the Joffrey Ballet International Summer Dance Intensive in Chicago. Out of over 1,100 dancers, Hillary was one of 150 selected to attend this program. The Summer Dance Intensive was a 5 week program in which Hillary was able to work with professional dancers in ballet, jazz, and modern dance.

Hillary started taking dance at the local studio, Sonya’s Gotta Dance when she was 3. Sonya Doerr has been instrumental in helping Hillary with her dream of dancing professional. She held a raffle at her dance recital to help Hillary attend the program. Heather Maschoff, the winner, graciously donated her winnings back to Hillary. Sara Habbe and the Nashville Optimist Club awarded Hillary a scholarship to help with the cost of the program.

Hillary currently dances at Dance Station in O’Fallon, IL where she is a current member of the State Street Dance Company. Hillary is also involved in the Cechetti Ballet method where she studies and takes dance exams graded by dance professionals. She is presently working on her level six professional exam. There are 8 levels to master.
