The boys and girls cross country teams competed in the Sparta Invitational on Tuesday September 15. The boys finished in second place in the meet while the girls team finished in fourth.
The boys team finished with a score of 98. Sophomore Brandon Schnitker finished second in the race and was the first finisher for the Hornets with a time of 17:15. The next Hornets finisher came across in fifteenth place with a time of 18:16. Ryan Kell crossed the line third for the Hornets in 21st position with a time of 18:35. Ray Bailey and Landon Davis rounded out the top five finishers for the Hornets finishing with times of 18:36 and 19:25.
The girls team finished with a score of 152. Leading the way for the Hornettes was Grace Maschhoff who came across the line 16th with a time of 22:09. She was followed by fellow freshman for the Hornettes Brittnie Bartling who came across the line in 20th place with a time of 22:52. Jaylyn Bower finished third for the Hornettes with a time of 23:28. Rounding out the top 5 for the Hornettes was Johnna Bergmann with a time of 24:29 and Tianna Kozuszek with a time of 25:14.
The cross country teams were back at it as they went to the DuQuoin Invitational on September 17. The girls team finished third with a score of 66 finishing behing Carterville and DuQuoin and finishing ahead of Sparta. The boys team narrowly lost out to Steelville for first place, as they finished one point behind.
Leading the girls team was Brittnie Bartling, finishing sixth overall with a time of 21:45. Fellow freshman Grace Maschhoff finished right behind her in seventh place with a time of 21:52. Jaylyn Bower finished third for the Hornettes as she came across the line in 14th place with a time of 23:30. Tianna Kozuszek was fourth for Nashville, finishing 17th with a time of 24:14. Rounding out the top five for the Hornettes was Taylor Cook who finished with a time of 25:17.
The boys team was led by Brandon Schnitker who was third overall with a time of 17:16. Jackson Pierce crossed the line in 10th place with a time of 18:04. Ryan Kell was right behind Pierce in 12th place with a time of 18:20. Caleb Zgonina was the fourth finisher for the Hornets coming across with a time of 18:30 in 14th place. Ray Bailey rounded out the top five for Nashville as he came across 16th with a time of 18:42.
