Country Competes In

The Nashville High School cross country teams were succesful as they traveled to take part in the Pinckneyville Invitational on Thursday October 8.
The boys team came away with first place overall finishing with a score of 62. The Hornets finished ahead of Red Bud, Pinckneyville, Salem, and Steelville.
The girls team came away in thrid place with a score of 136. The Hornettes finished behind Carterville who finished with a score of 96, and Okawville who finished with a score of 133.
The Freshaman/Sophomore boys team also competed finishing in fourth place with a score of 157. The team finished behind Pinckneyville, who had a score of 42, DuQuoin, who finished with a score of 128, and New Athens, who finished with a score of 137.
Leading the boys varsity team was Brandon Schnitker with a time of 16:53, which was good for second overall. Senior Jackson Pierce finished 12th overall with a score 17:57. Pierce was followed across the finish line by teammates Ryan Kell, who finished in 13th place with a time of 18:01 and Ray Bailey finished 14th with a time of 18:02. Caleb Zgonina was the fifth finisher for the Hornets as he came across the line in 21st place with a time of 18:27. The other runners for the Hornets were John Schroeder, who finished in 46th place with a time of 20:26, and Jacob Showmaker who finished with a time of 20:29 in 49th place.
The girls team was led by freshman Grace Maschhoff who placed 13th in the race with a time of 21:52. Brittnie Bartling was second on the team coming across the line in 18th place with a time of 22:37. Coming across third for the Hornettes was Jaylyn Bower who finished 25th with a time of 23:11. Senior Tianna Kozuszek was fourth on the Hornettes finishing 35th overall with a time of 23:54. Taylor Cook rounded out the top five for the Hornettes with atime of 24:42, which was good for 45th overall. Avery Meade finished with a time of 26:30 in 66th place, and Lexi Zgonina finished in 90th place with a time of 31:12 to round out the runners for the Hornettes.
In the Freshman/Sophomores boys race Landon Davis finished fifth overall with a time of 18:49. Day Bailey finished with a time of 19:56 in 15th place. Nick Orr was third on the Hornets in 39th place with a time of 22:19. Rounding out the top five for the Hornets was Daymeon Baugh in 46th place with a time of 23:20, and Stephen Hary in 52nd place with a time of 25:25.
The cross country team will be back in action on Thursday October 15, when they travel to West Frankfort for Conference.
