NCHS Counseling Office

Financial Aid Presentation: On Tuesday, November 3, the NCHS Counseling office will host a financial aid presentation for parents and students. Information concerning the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form as well as federal and state grants and loans will be provided. Senior students and parents are encouraged to attend. The presentation will be in the NCHS media center beginning at 6:00 PM.

National Art Portfolio Days – Students who are interested in an education in visual and related arts are invited to meet with representatives from colleges accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design. Representatives will review your artwork, discuss their programs, and answer questions about professional careers in art. This event will be held Sunday, October 25, 2015 at Washington University in St. Louis from 11:00-4:00. Presentations on Careers in Art and Financial Aid will be held in Steinberg Hall from 11:00-12:00 and Portfolio Reviews will be held in Bixby, Steinberg, ad Givens Halls from 12:00-4:00. On-site Admission Day: Murray State University will be at the Four Points Sheraton in Fairview Heights on October 29 from 5-8 PM. If students are interested in applying they should bring their official high school transcript with ACT score and $40 application fee. If requirements are met, students will be admitted on the spot. SICCM (Southern Illinois Colligate Common Market) Open House: On Friday, December 11th SICCM (Southern Illinois Colligate Common Market) will be holding their annual open house day. This gives students and parents the opportunity to visit the SICCM facility in Herrin, IL and learn more information about the programs that Kaskaskia College offers through their partnership with SICCM. These programs include Surgical Technology, Medical Laboratory Technology, Occupational Therapy Assistant, and Veterinary Technology. Kaskaskia College has reserved a time slot from 10:05 am till 11:25 am on this day for any interested students to go and tour the facility. They will be providing transportation from the main campus, to the facility in Herrin, and then back to KC. We will also provide lunch as well. Contact the Counseling Office for more information.

ACT Prep Classes: Listed below are various ACT prep classes being offered in our area to help students prepare for the ACT. Contact Mrs. Luessenheide or Mrs. Maschhoff for more specific information.

* Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville (SIUE) –The October session begins Saturday, October 24 and meets on Saturdays for 5 weeks from 9:00 AM-12:00 PM. The cost per session is $175 and includes a study guide and pre-test. To register contact:

* Southwestern Illinois College (SWIC) – A three-week prep class begins on October 31. The class is held for three weeks from 9:00 AM-3:30 PM. The cost is $162. Additional book fee is $20.40. To register, call: 618-235-2700, ext. 5393 or 5618

* Webster University – Three different one day workshops: November 21, January 16, and March 19 from 8:00 AM-2:30 PM. Cost is $50. Register online at:

ACT Testing Dates: The next ACT test with open registration is December 12. Registration is due by November 6. Additional ACT testing dates for the year are February 6, April 9, and June 11. Registration is typically due 5 weeks before the testing date. Students may register at Our high school code is 143-110.
