Both the boys and girls cross country teams competed at the 1A IHSA Cross Country Sectionals that were held at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville on October 31. The boys finished third overall, advancing them to state, which will be held Saturday November 7. The girls team finished 10th overall, and were not able to advance to state.

The boys team finished third overall in the meet. The Hornets finished with 103 points, behind only Pinckneyville, and Freeburg. The other advancing teams were Steelville and Benton. Leading the Hornets was Brandon Schnitker, finishing 2nd overall with a time 16:51 in the race. Caleb Zgonina finished 2nd on the team, placing 15th overall with a time of 17:44. Right behind Zgonina was Jackson Pierce in 17th place with a time of 17:48. Fourth for the Hornets was Ray Bailey in 33rd place with a time of 18:16. Rounding out the top five finishers for Nashville was Ryan Kell in 36th place with a time of 18:25.

The girls team finished 10th overall in the sectional. The Hornettes finished behind Herrin, Mater Dei, Freeburg, Carterville, Roxana, DuQuoin, Lebanon, Althoff, and Okawville. Leading the way for the Hornettes was freshman Brittnie Bartling, in 21st place with a time of 21:24. Grace Maschhoff finished with a time of 22:02 in 29th place. Third for Nashville was Jaylyn Bower with a time of 22:37 in 40th place. Rounding out the top five for Nashville was Avery Meade in 88th place and Tianna Kozusek in 90th place.

The boys will continue their season at the IHSA Class A State Finals Meet, which will be held on Satuday November 7. The meet will be held at Detweiller Park in Peoria. The course for the meet is a 3 mile course.
