Both the A and B teams for the Hoyleton/Grand Prairie Thundercats girls basketball teams were back in action this past as they traveled to take on Centralia Trinity on November 9.
The A team started off quick, doubling up Centralia Trinity in the first quarter, outscoring them 12-6 behind 6 points by Sydney Schnitker. The teams traded points in the second quarter, and the Thundercats held a 16-10 lead at halftime. Hoyleton/Grand Prairie took control in the third quarter, outscoring Centralia Trinity 12-1 to take a 28-11 lead into the fourth quarter. The Thundercats were able to coast from there winning the game 32-20.
The A team was led by both Carlie Barban and Taylor Stark with 8 points apiece. Sydney Schnitker added 7 points in the game. Madi Draege scored 5 points and both Emily Schnitker and Lilly McKinney each added 2 points in the game.
The B team was not able come out on top in their game, as they fell 12-18. The Thundercats had the lead after the first quarter, as just two points were scored in the game. Centralia Trinity came back to tie the game at 6 at halftime. The third quarter was evenly matched as the score stayed tied going into the fourth. Centralia Trinity took control of the game in the fourth quarter outscoring the Thundercats 8-2. Hoyleton/Grand Prairie lost the game 12-18.
Leading the way for the B team in the game was Lilly McKinney with 8 points. The only other scorer for Hoyleton/Grand Prairie was Carlie Barban with 4 points.
The Thundercats were back in action on Tuesday November 10 as they traveled to take on St. Marys Mt. Vernon. The game was close throughout, with neither team gaining a huge advantage in the game. The game was tied at eight after the first quarter, but Hoyleton/Grand Prairie was able to take a two point lead at halftime. After halftime, the Thundercats were able to slightly extend their lead to take a four point lead into the fourth quarter. The Thundercats were able to just hold onto the victory even though they were outscored by three in the final quarter. The final score was 28-27.
The Thundercats were led by Barban with 10 points in the game. Emily Schnitker scored nine points for the Thundercats followed by Sydney Schnitker with four points. Taylor Stark scored three points in the game and Madi Draege chipped in two points in the game.
Both the A team and B team were in action November 13 as they took on the St. Libory Saints. The Thundercats A-Team came out strong, outscoring St. Libory 15-2. The Thundercats continued to pad their lead in the second quarter, and went into halftime with a 23-4 lead. St. Libory chipped into the lead during the third quarter, but trailed by 14 going into the fourth. The Thundercats crusied from there to a 39-21 win.
Leading the way fro the A-team was Barban with a double double. She had 16 rebounds and 20 points in the game. Stark added 8 points in the game. Sydney Schnitker had 7 points in the game and Emily Schnitker and Draege each scored two points in the game.
The B-team for the Thundercats also came out victorious as well as they won by a score of 31-14. Lilly McKinney led the way with 11 points in the game. Barban added 8 points, Kirsten Twenhafel had 6 points and Lilly Taft, Draege, and Emily Schnitker added two points.
