Father Jerome H. Hibner of Belleville, was granted eternal rest at Memorial Hospital in
Belleville, on Thursday, November 19, 2015 at 6:00 P.M. He had attained the age of 77 years, 10 months and 24 days.
A native of Lodz, Poland, Father Jerome Hibner was born December 25, 1937 to the late Jerome and Anna Hibner.
Father Hibner was ordained July 5, 1964 in Zdunska Wola, Poland and he served as an assistant pastor in Warsaw, before coming to the Dioceses of Belleville, in 1971.
Father Hibner’s ministries began as administrator of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Posen and in 1975 at St. Charles Borromeo in DuBois and Immaculate Conception in Tamaroa.
His first pastorate assignment was at St. Ann’s in Nashville in 1981 where he served for six years. He was granted U.S. Citizenship shortly after arriving at St. Ann’s. He went on to serve as pastor at St. Michael’s in Radom and St. Barbara’s in Scheller until he suffered a stroke on December 31, 1999.
Father Hibner retired in November 2001 and lived at Rosewood Care Center in Swansea for a period of time before moving to the Hincke Residence for Priests. Fr. Hibner was very social and enjoyed spending time with his parishioners.
Left to mourn his passing is his sister Maria Weszczak of Sieradz, Poland; faithful friend, Judy Conley of Belleville; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
Presiding over the Funeral Liturgy will be Fr. John Iffert. Mass of Christian burial was held at St. Michael Catholic Church in Radom, on Tuesday, November 24, 2015.
Should friends desire, Mass offerings or memorial donations may be made to the Clergyman’s Aid Society and will be accepted by the Campagna Funeral Home, who is assisting the family with arrangements.
