By Alex Haglund

David Martin, 50, of Addieville was killed in an accident late in the day on Friday, January 8.

Martin was at his father-in-law’s auto repair shop at 11057 Coal Ford Road north of Okawville working on a small pickup truck.

According to Washington County Coroner Mark Styninger’s report, Martin appeared to have jacked the truck up and was lying underneath the vehicle working on the undercarriage when for some reason, the jack slipped and the vehicle fell onto him.

Martin was last seen around 4:30 p.m. and was discovered by his father in law at approximately 6:45p.m. when he failed to answer his cellular phone.

Styninger’s office was dispatched to the shop at 7:24 p.m., and he declared Martin dead at 7:47 p.m. Styninger determined the cause of death to be asphyxiation due to chest trauma and the manner of death was accidental. No autopsy was performed.

Along with the Coroner’s Department, the agencies who responded to the scene included the Addieville Fire Department, Washington County Ambulance Service and the Washington County Sheriff’s Department.
