Clarence David “Butch” Kabat

Clarence David “Butch” Kabat, 70, of Nashville, passed away at 10:00 P.M., Saturday, January 16, 2016 at his residence.

Butch had worked 35 years as an Air Traffic Controller and was owner/operator of Fresh Produce Etc. Butch served in the United States Navy during Vietnam War Era. He was a member of the St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Nashville, VFW, American Legion, and Amvets.

He was born July 25, 1945 in Scheller, the son of Anthony J. and Emily (Kowalski) Kabat.

He first married Shirley Wisniewski, then married Sheryl Batson, and he then married Mary Geppert Wilson on October 10, 1992 at St. Ann’s Church in Nashville, and she survives.

He is survived by his wife of Nashville, seven children – Carmalee Korte and husband Nick of New Baden, Shawn Kabat of Nashville, Zachary Kabat and wife Amber of Nashville, Sarah Raymer and husband Doug of Ashley, Andrew Kabat and wife Ariel of Scheller, Lori Hammes and husband Todd of St. Charles, Mo., and Lisa Wilson and significant other Oscar Leymeister of O’Fallon; fifteen grandchildren and one on the way, four great-grandchildren, one sister – Roseann Kristen of Tamaroa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister – Janette Nash, one brother – Bernard Kabat, and one step-son – Timothy Wilson.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 A.M., Friday, January 22, at the St. Barbara Catholic Church in Scheller, with Fr. John Iffert officiating.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 P.M., Thursday, January 21, at the Searby Funeral Home in Tamaroa.

Military Graveside Rites will be conducted by the Du Quoin V.F.W., American Legion, and the United States Navy.

Burial will be in the St. Barbara Cemetery at Scheller.

Friends may make memorials to the Du Quoin VFW and American Legion and will be accepted at the funeral home.
