Josephine E. Szczepanski

Josephine E. Szczepanski, 77, of Tamaroa, passed away at 3:16 P.M., Friday, January 15, 2016 at the SSM Health Good Samaritan in Mt. Vernon.

She was a homemaker and loved to cook. She cooked for many weddings and funerals. She was involved with her church, St Charles of Borromeo, she was a past Regent of the Catholic Daughters of America; she belonged to the St. Teresaís Altar Sodality and was an AARP member. She enjoyed playing bingo and going to the boat. She was born April 23, 1938 at Scheller, the daughter of Michael and Clara (Wyciskalla) Pijut.

She married Lawrence Szczepanski on November 28, 1954 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Chicago, and he survives.

She is survived by her husband of Tamaroa, four children – Michael Szczepanski and friend Sharon of Central City, KY, Lawrence Szczepanski, Jr. and wife Terri of Tamaroa, Cyndi Szczepanski of Benton, KY, and Terry Szczepanski and wife Paula of Tamaroa, two grandchildren – Kreston and Sarah Szczepanski, three great grandchildren – Haley, Olivia, and Vaden Szczepanski, two sister-in-laws – Eleanor Pijut of Scheller and Bernadine Geppart of Coulterville, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers – Edward and Dominic Pijut, and one sister – Lorraine McKay.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at the St. Charles Catholic Church in Du Bois, IL with Fr. Larry Lemay officiating.

A visitation was held and a Rosary was prayed on the evening of Tuesday, January 19, at the Searby Funeral Home in Tamaroa.

Burial will be in the St. Charles Cemetery at Du Bois.

Friends may make memorials to Masses or St. Charles Cemetery and will be accepted at the funeral home.
