Counselors’ Report: NCHS Counseling Office

Midterms:

Friday, February 5 was the midterm of the third quarter.  With most parents having access to student’s grades through Family Access on Skyward, we have decided not to print and mail midterm reports to every parent. Parents are encouraged to check their child’s grades online.  If you do not have internet access and need a paper copy mailed, please contact the counseling office at 327-8286.  Report cards will continue to be mailed at the end of the each quarter.

High School Pharmacy Camp: The University of Illinois College of Pharmacy at Rockford program is inviting current high school students interested in pursuing a career in pharmacy to apply for the High School Pharmacy Camp. Students will explore the field of pharmacy though instruction and activities led by current pharmacy students. The camp will last from 9:00 AM-1:00 PM at the University of Illinois College of Pharmacy in Rockford. The cost is $25. Registration is due by March 11, 2015. College Fairs:

As we encourage students to apply early to college, we also encourage parents and students to be educated about their decisions. An excellent avenue to find out about various colleges is a college fair. Listed below are various college fairs in our region.

Scholarships:

As we receive information on scholarships, they will posted on the Counseling Office webpage at: https://sites.google.com/a/nashville-k12.org/scholarships/ Here is a list partial list of upcoming scholarships:

Illinois Society Of Professional Engineers Scholarship – This scholarship is open to high school seniors who plan to study engineering. Applicants must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher and a minimum ACT math 29 and English 25. Applications are available in the counseling office and must be postmarked February 12, 2016.

Illinois PTA Scholarships – This scholarship is open to high school seniors with a GPA of 3.0 or above planning to pursue and education-related degree. For more information and the application, visit the Illinois PTA at http://www.illinoispta.org/scholarshipapplication.html The application is due February 15, 2016.

AHEC 2016 Future Healthcard Hero Award – Applicants must be a high school senior pursuing entry into any health science program for the fall 2016 semester and have a minimum of a 2.5 GPA. Applications are in the scholarship file in the counseling office. Applications are due by February 15, 2016.

Farm Credit Illinois – Farm Credit Illinois is awarding scholarships to high school seniors pursuing a career in

• University of Southern Indiana – March 8

• Fontbonne University – February 25

ACT At NCHS:

An ACT (without the writing portion) will be given for juniors at the high school on Tuesday, April 19th. This test is optional. The cost for students is $39.50. Interested students should sign up in the Counseling Office.

ACT Prep Classes:

Listed below are various ACT prep classes being offered in our area to help students prepare for the ACT. Contact Mrs. Luessenheide or Mrs. Maschhoff for more specific information.

* Online ACT or SAT Prep Class – This online ACT or SAT prep class is offered through SIUC’s Division of Extended Campus. The class lasts for approximately 6 weeks and costs $94. Call Dr. Kathy Smith at 618-453-5684 if interested.

* Webster University – One day workshop: March 19 from 8:00 AM-2:30 PM. Cost is $50. Register online at: webster.edu/actworkshop

NCHS ACT Prep Workshops:

NCHS teachers are hosting ACT prep workshops at the high school to assist juniors in preparing for the upcoming ACT tests. Subject, dates, and times are listed below. Students are to sign up outside the main office if interested in attending.

ACT Testing Dates:

The next ACT test with open registration is April 9. Registration is due by March 4. An additional ACT testing date for this year is June 11. Registration is typically due 5 weeks before the testing date. Students may register at www.ACTStudent.org. Our high school code is 143-110.
