Erna Martens

Mrs. Erna Martens of Venedy, departed this life in the Extended Care Unit of the Washington County Hospital in Nashville, on Monday, February 1, 2016 at 9:25 A.M. She had attained the age of 86 years, 5 months and 22 days.

Erna was born in Venedy on August 7, 1929 the daughter of Edward H. and Martha (nee Borrenpohl) Marquard. She was united in marriage to Earl H. Martens on May 20, 1951 in the St. Salvator Lutheran Church in Venedy and he preceded her in death on July 12, 2006.

Mrs. Martens was a homemaker. She was a lifelong and faithful member of St. Salvator Lutheran Church where she was a former member of the Dorcas Society. She was dedicated to her church and would not miss Sunday services. Erna and her husband, Earl also served as the church custodians for over 40 years. Erna was a member of the Red Hat Ladies and loved going on the luncheons. She enjoyed music and she liked to watch St. Louis Cardinal Baseball. She especially loved watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren play sports. Faith and family were the joys of her life. She was devoted to family, making sure that they were given a strong foundation of faith.

Left to mourn her passing is her two daughters, Judy Wiedwilt and husband Scott of Addieville, and Jane Frazer and husband Roger of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Ryan Wiedwilt and wife Deneane, Kristen Turner and husband Matt, Brooke Hoffmann and husband Robert and Trisha Frazer; five great grandchildren, Cole, Camryn and Cadee Wiedwilt, and Braylen and Brendal Turner; a sister, Dolores Tepe and husband Marvin of Okawville; two sisters-in-law, Ethel Marquard of Okawville and Dorothy Surmeier and husband Harry of Venedy; four brothers-in-law, Roy Martens and Leo Martens both of Venedy, Harold Martens and wife Karen and Paul Martens and special friend Minnette Guetersloh all of Nashville; nieces and nephews; other relatives as well as a host of friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Norma Marquard; three brothers, Omer, Edward and Monroe Marquard; and a nephew, Glenn Marquard.

Funeral services will be held from the St. Salvator Lutheran Church in Venedy on Friday, February 5, 2016 at 11 A.M. with Pastor Art Eichhorn officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Friends may call at the Campagna Funeral Home in Okawville on Thursday from 4 P.M. until 8 P.M. and again on Friday from 7:30 A.M. until 9 A.M. then at the church on Friday from 10 A.M. until the service hour.

Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the St. Salvator Lutheran Church or to Celtic Hospice and will be accepted by the Campagna Funeral Home.
