“Illinois State Budget Crisis And The
University of Illinois Extension Local Government Information and Education Network will host a webinar on the Illinois State Budget Crisis and the Impact on Local Government on Thursday, February 18, 2016 from noon-1pm (CST). Professor J. Fred Giertz, University of Illinois Institute of Government and Public Affairs, will present his analysis of the state budget crisis examining both current and future impacts on local government budgets. According to Giertz, “The state of Illinois faces two challenges: the ongoing budget impasse between the Governor and General Assembly and the long term structural deficit where future expenditures promise to outpace revenues. Both of these have major impacts on local governments in Illinois.”
Professor Giertz frequently writes about the Illinois budget and general economic issues in publications such as State Tax Notes and the Central Illinois Business Magazine, as well as compiles the U of I Flash Index, a monthly indicator of the Illinois economy. Since 2000, he has served as the Executive Director of the National Tax Association, a 1,200 member organization of tax professionals located in Washington, D. C.
There is no cost to attend the webinars, however pre-registration is required. For more information or to register, contact Pam Schallhorn, Community and Economic Development Educator for University of Illinois Extension at 618-327-8881or [email protected]
