NMS Volleyball Recap
The Nashville Jr. Hornettes volleyball team struggled this past week, as they competed against Murphysboro, Chester and DuQuoin before playing in the 8th Grade St Ann Tournament. Overall the Jr. Hornettes finished the week 3-5.
The Jr. Hornettes began the week with a 25-4, 25-15 loss at Murphysboro on February 22. Nashville got back on the winning track, the next night as they defeated DuQuoin 25-13, 25-21. Sabrina Kollbaum finished the match with two kills and one ace. Addi Gale finished with one kill and one ace in the win. Olivia Cook, Madison Schuette, Kinze Fox, Elise Spencer, and Elley Szopinski finished with one kill apiece.
Nashville was able to notch another win against Chester on February 25. Nashville took the match in three games. Nashville lost the first game 25-18 before rebounding to take the final two games 25-15, 15-7. Raqui Elliott finished the match with 10 aces. Kollbaum finished with five aces. Destyn Hausner finished with two aces, while Gale and Spencer finished with one ace apiece.
Nashville then started play in the 8th Grade St. Ann Tournament on February 27. The Jr. Hornettes started the tournament with a matchup against St. Ann. Nashville lost the match 21-12, 21-14. Spencer finished with three aces, while Gale finished with one ace, and her first block of the season. Nashville's next match of the tournament came against Okawville. The Jr. Hornettes dropped their second straight match of the tournament, 21-18, 21-13. Elliott finished with three aces to lead Nashville. Cook finished with two aces, followed by Kollbaum with one ace.
The Jr. Hornettes next match came up against Field. Nashville took the first game 21-15, but dropped the final two games 22-20, 15-7. Elliott finished with three kills and one ace. Szopinski also finished with three aces. Kollbaum finished with two aces and one kill. Cook finished with two aces as well, and Spencer finished with one kill and one ace.
Nashville's fourth match of the 8th Grade St. Ann Tournament came against St. Libory. Again the Jr. Hornettes were able to win the first game, 25-21, but could not take the match as St. Libory came back to win the final two games, 25-17, 17-15. Elliott finished with a team-high two aces in the match, to go along with four kills. Spencer notched just one ace, but finished with six kills to lead the team. Szopinski finished with one kill and one ace, while Kollbaum, and Cook finished with one ace apiece.
Nashville got their first win of the tournament in a rematch against Field. A close match, Nashville was able to win the first two games 25-23, 2624. Fox led the team with two aces. Elliot finished with one ace, and three kills. Szopinski finished with one ace, and two kills, while Kollbaum finished with one ace and one kill. Gale and Spencer finished with one kill apiece in the win.
