On this fifth Sunday of Lent, Zion Evangelical United Church of Christ will study Old Testament lessons from Isaiah 43: 16-21, from Phil 3: 4b-14 and from the Gospel of John 12: 1-8.

Jesus and many of his disciples were having dinner in His honor. Martha was serving the dinner and at one point she took about a pint of pure, expensive perfume and poured it on Jesus’ feet and wiped His feet with her hair. The house was completely filled with the fragrance. But one of the disciples, Judas, objected saying the money should have been spent on serving the poor, not to wash the Lord’s feet. And all knew then Judas did not care about the poor for he had been taking money from the money bag for his own purposes.

Jesus said, “leave her alone, it was intended that she use this perfume on the day of my burial. You will not always have me with you.”

Worship begins at 10 a.m. every Sunday morning with special worship bags for children age 3-12. All are welcome. The church council will meet on March 16 at 7 p.m.

Trinity Men’s Club is hosting their Paper Drive on March 19. Newspapers, magazines, sales ads – – bring them all to the Church parking lot on Saturday. If you have any questions, please contact Marvin Hake at 493-6187.
