March 18 Deadline For AFA Leadership Conference And Scholarship

Community Partners in Washington County have joined forces with Agriculture Future of America (AFA) to support an agricultural scholarship program. AFA is a 501(c)3 corporation dedicated to supporting higher education and leadership development of future agriculture producers and rural business leaders.

Since 1997, AFA’s partnerships have awarded more than $8 million in academic scholarships and provided leader training to 10,000 students and young professionals. In Washington County alone, 14 students have received $44,800 in scholarships during the twelve-year community partnership with AFA.

A local committee supports the AFA Leader and Academic Scholarship for Washington County and AFA matches raised community funds. The AFA Leader and Academic Scholarship is $4,200, including a $3,200 academic scholarship. The additional $1,000 will sponsor the Washington County recipient to the AFA Leaders Conference in Kansas City on November 3-6, 2016 (attendance required).

The Washington County Community AFA Scholarship, and corresponding leadership conference, is available to all graduating seniors enrolling in an accredited college of agriculture. They must also be a resident of Washington County.

The AFA will only accept online applications, but this process allows students to qualify for National AFA Scholarships in addition to our local AFA Scholarship. This process provides an extra opportunity for scholarships from the National AFA organization.

The 2016 AFA Community Scholarship has a deadline of March 18, 2016. More information and the application can be found at: www.agfuture.org/scholarships.
