Birding Workshop At Carlyle Lake April 2

Learning and understanding the birds in the environment has become a fast growing activity for area residents.  University of Illinois Extension will be holding a special birding event.  Dr. Michael Ward, associate professor in the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences at University of Illinois and a research scientist at the Illinois Natural History Survey will be conducting a workshop on ornithology; the study of birds on April 2, 2016 from 9-3 at the Carlyle Lake visitor Center at 801 Lake Road, Carlyle.

The workshop will entail an overview of ornithology, from understanding bird behavior to the most important measures we can take to conserve bird populations. We will break for a brown bag lunch at noon. The second part of the workshop will be in the field where participants will learn the basics of how to identify and study birds.

Dr. Ward studies the ecology and behavior of birds in order to inform conservation efforts. Workshop participants will gain an understanding of ornithology and bird ecology in Illinois.

There is no cost for this workshop but participants must pre-register by Tuesday, March 22. You do not need special equipment to participate in this workshop; however if you have binoculars it will be helpful to bring them along. For additional information call 618-526-4551.

University of Illinois Extension provides equal opportunities in programs and employment. If you need a reasonable accommodation to participate in this program, contact the extension office at (618)327-8881
