Richard W. Sachtleben, 94, of Hoyleton, passed away at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, May 1, 2016 at his residence.

He was born on March 13, 1922 in Hoyleton, the son of Walter and Pauline Maschhoff Sachtleben. He married Arletta Marie Homann on May 23, 1948 and she passed away on November 11, 1999. Also preceding him in death was a son, Bruce.

Left to mourn his passing are three sons, Dale Sachtleben of Hoyleton, David (Stephanie) Sachtleben of Centralia and Glen (Cheryl) Sachtleben of Hoyleton; a brother, Alvin Sachtleben of Hoyleton; seven grandchildren, Samantha Sachtleben, Elizabeth (Toby) Hoekstra, Amanda and Rebecca Sachtleben, Derek Sachtleben and special friend Maria, Kelsey and Kara Sachtleben.

Mr. Sachtleben was a graduate of Centralia High School. He was a dairy farmer in Hoyleton most of his life and after retiring from farming, he worked at the Hoyleton lumber yard. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hoyleton where he was active in Men’s Club, the Couples Club and held numerous offices including elder and chairman of the congregation. He was a member of the Washington County Farm Bureau and Mid American Dairymen Association. He enjoyed bowling, traveling and playing cards but most of all spending time with his family.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 6, 2016 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hoyleton with Rev. Tyler Hauptmeier officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at the Styninger Funeral and Cremation Chapel in Hoyleton and one hour prior to services on Friday at the church.
