Deadline For “Walk With The Dogs” Approaching
Attention all Pancreatic Cancer Purple Warriors! The deadline for the 11th Annual 5K “Walk With the Dogs” is just around the corner.
The event is scheduled for Saturday, June 4 at Memorial Park and in order to make sure you guarantee a shirt (and shirt size), registration will close on Friday, May 13.
All entries will need to be received by then. You can download an entry form and mail it in, drop it off with Charlie & Carolyn Detering, or register online at www.jthompsonwalkwiththedogs.com.
Pancreatic Cancer is one of the MOST formidable forms of cancer. There are NO early detection methods and little to no treatment options. Five year survival rates are still in the single digits and more people are now dying each year from Pancreatic Cancer than Breast Cancer.
Research is key and this event helps raise money for research as ALL proceeds are donated to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network. This year the Walk With The Dogs will surpass the quarter million dollar mark in Cumulative Lifetime Giving.
The event is a great family event and obviously 4-legged family members are more than welcome. McGruff, the Crime Dog, will be also be making an appearance. So many have lost their fight against this disease and tributes are made to each of them, including those Nashville residents who have lost their battle against this disease like Eleanor Rogers, Gus Kolweier, Gladys Brinkmann, Dayton Groennert, Jeanenne Thompson (who the event is named after) and most recently Dr. Gary Goforth, Jan Thompson and Arlen White.
The Registration Fee is $20 and includes your T-shirt and dog bandana. Kids under the age of 16 walking with an adult are only $10. A huge Silent Auction and Raffle is held after the 5K. Once again, Walt Disney World has donated 4 Disney Day Hopper Passes and there are so many other great items.
