Hornettes Capture Conference Crown

In a race to the finish, the Hornettes were able to overcome rival Carterville to win the SIRR Conference Mississippi Division Title. This year, the conference meet was held at Herrin High School. Both the Mississippi and Ohio Divisions each crowned a different champion. The Ohio Division wasn't a close race, as Herrin won 10 out of the 17 events to crush the opposition. On the Mississippi side it was much closer, as Nashville used a great performance in field events to defeat conference rival Carterville.
The Hornettes amassed 160 points in the meet, followed by Carterville with 128 points, Anna-Jonesboro in third with 85 points, DuQuoin finished fourth, followed by Sparta in fifth, and Pinckneyville in sixth. At the meet, the Hornettes finished first in just three events, but used seven second place finishes, and six third place finishes to take home the conference championship.
Finishing first for Nashville at the meet was Abby Kroener in discus, who was just one foot off the Mississippi Division meet record with a throw of 120-11. Taylor Cook brought home first place in the 300M Hurdles with a time of 50.36, and the 4X400 relay team consisting of Cook, Allyson Grabowski, Kylie Kozuszek, and Jadah Heidel crossed the line first in the final event of the day with a a time of 4:25.09.
The Hornettes finished second in seven different events. Mariel Elliott finished second in both the long jump and triple jump for Nashville. Morgan Fox finished second in the pole vault, as she cleared 7 feet. Emily Harper finished second in the Shot Put, and the team of Cook, Kozuszek, Maschhoff, and Grabowski finished second in the 4X800M relay.
The Hornettes also finished third in a plethora of events. The Hornettes got third place finishes from Kozuszek in the Pole Vault, Carli Hoffman in the Shot Put, Janie Holle in the discus, Rachael Kell in the high jump, Brittnie Bartling in the 3200M run, and Heidel in the 300M Hurdles.
