Hornettes Win Sectional Crown

The Nashville Hornettes track team, continued their strong season with a win at the Class 1A Sparta Sectional. The Hornettes faced stiff competition from 14 other teams that included, Washington County rival Okawville, as well as conference rivals Sparta, and Pinckneyville. Other teams competing at the sectional were: Chester, Madison, Lebanon, Belleville Althoff, Metro-East Lutheran, Mater Dei, Red Bud, Wesclin, Dupo, Gibault Catholic, and New Athens.

The Hornettes finished the meet with 128 points, well above second place Chester, who finished with 88 points. Okawville finished third, followed by Madison in fourth, and Lebanon in fifth. The Hornettes had nine athletes, in eight different events, qualify for the Class 1a State track meet, which begins on Thursday May 19.

Qualifying for State was Emily Harper, in shot put, Abby Kroener and Janie Holle in discus, Brittnie Bartling in the 3200M run, Grace Maschhoff in the 1600M run, Kylie Kozuszek in the pole vault, Allyson Grabowski in the 800M run, the team of Maschhoff, Taylor Cook, Grabowski, and Kozuszek in the 4X800M relay, and the team of Cook, Grabowski, Jadah Heidel, and Kozuszek in the 4X400M relay.

The prelims for the state track meet begin on Thursday morning, and the finals take place on Saturday May 21.
