Washington County Wellness group was organized by the Washington County Health Department to improve the health of our county residents.

This group is composed of representatives from the following agencies: Washington County Health Department, Washington County Hospital, Family Physicians of Southern Illinois, Emergency Management Agency, Law Enforcement, County Coroner, Human Resource Center for Washington County, Nashville and Okawville School Districts, Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville, McKendree University, and concerned citizens.

Washington County Wellness group challenged local high school students to develop a Logo and Slogan for the wellness group to use in promoting healthy choices.

Mariel Elliott from Nashville Community High School developed the logo of a pair of hands with the slogan: “Put Your Health in Your Own Hands” She was awarded a Fitness Tracker. Look for the “HANDS” logo as healthy choice messages are sent throughout the year from the various organizations.

The goal of the Washington County Wellness group is to provide information, education, programs, and activities to help everyone make healthy lifestyle choices. Risk factors for preventable diseases can be reduced by smart choices in nutrition, physical and recreational activities, and emotional well-being.
